Honeysuckle our luxurious 2 bedroom cottage

Samantha 31st July 2022

We have stay here before (2015) and it felt very familiar and homely. The welcome was warm and we relaxed immediately. We would recommend Fish & Chips from Paul’s Plaice ‘delicious’, pastries for breakfast from Crusty Loaf ‘amazing’. The garden in the mornings is heavenly.
We enjoyed the cliff Railway at Babbacombe. Scoopy Doo’s Ice cream parlor. Small World Tapas and Rock Solid Coasteering!

Once again you have enabled us to have a special and memorable family holiday. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality. We shall Be back.

We loved our little holiday Home in every way. The water park and Paignton beach were fun for our 5-year-old twins, and we loved Maidencombe. We would recommend The Minute Village and loved Station Café by the cliff lift in Babbacombe with the lovely view and delicious food. We made some amazing family memories as this was our first holiday since our boys were babies.

Thank you for having us and the generous gift of wine and biscuits. We hope to be back soon.

A lovely quiet private cozy cottage that feels like a great escape from the hurl burly. Very welcome gifts on arrival with fantastic communication throughout. Very good if you have a dog.

A great stay, cottage is very comfortable, equipped and cosy. Very peaceful setting, we enjoyed listening to the birds with a morning coffee in the courtyard. Location is good, in a quiet street but a short stroll to a selection of local shops. Wifi speeds excellent, we were able to make video calls for work without any problem. The welcome goodies were a lovely touch. Communication by hosts was excellent, check in/out very easy. Would recommend.

Lovely!
Beautiful little house - perfect for us on our first post-covid holiday. Tucked away from the road but so close to the shops. Ideal. Really lovely walks all around and would love to return when the weather is less February-like! Martin was very welcoming and his mum was absolutely charming. Definitely recommend!

Lovely quiet accommodation with private garden. We had a great time at Pilgrims Rest, a great base for exploring the South Devon Coast and the South West Coastal Path. Lovely Coves and small beaches, plenty of good value pubs. Comfy accommodation within easy walking distance of shops and takeaways

Just what the doctor ordered! We have recently returned from a relaxing peaceful stay at Pilgrim’s rest residing in Honeysuckle cottage. Martin was a brilliant host, very supportive to our family before we travelled, accommodating our extra requests to bring an extra guest and our dog Elsie. Any minor issue such as WiFi problems or requests for an iron were dealt with immediately..The set up of the three cottages and communal areas worked perfectly for us, we were blessed with lovely residents in the other properties so it was lovely to share a run down of our respective day’s adventures over a brew or a gin and tonic. The gardens are a real sun trap and a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the evening sunshine. The cottage itself is welcoming and comfy, and we were kindly gifted a welcome pack on arrival. Gorgeous rooms with exposed beams and very comfy beds. It is ideally placed for sightseeing. Local shops and takeaways are within walking distance. Can’t recommend the spot highly enough. Martin is a brilliant host with bags of enthusiasm and lots of local knowledge. Would love to return one day.

A truly wonderful place to spend your holiday in. We were made to feel very welcome from the instant that we arrived and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Not only was the cottage beautiful, with its own private courtyard and orchard garden, the location is also perfect. Only a five minute drive to Torquay and local attraction. We stayed for seven days, the cottage was beautiful, very homely and the owners were wonderful, extremely friendly and helpful. We will be back again next year.

Doggy treats, bubbly and biscuits as a welcome – what more could you ask for? Been here before and loved the cottage and our hosts so much we came back – just as good as before. 7 years since our very first visit as a couple and he popped the question on Goodrington Sands beach! Thank you so much for another fantastic holiday. We take away yet more happy memories. For future guest you may like to take a walk down to Maidencombe beach – especially if you have dogs; it’s great. Lovely info folders of local restaurants, walks and attractions are provided.

This was Eve’s first holiday to remember. We love the Torbay region, holidaying here most of my life. Pilgrims rest ticked all our boxes for a family break. Beautiful accommodation with everything you would need. Thank you so much for such a welcoming experience. The bottle of fizz was very much needed and appreciated following the journey! Tip for future guests – get out and explore as much as possible as so many pretty places. Broadsands beach was incredible especially if you have children with great beachside bistro and cheap deckchair hire.

Excellent accommodation, especially for people with dogs, as finding a top-class place which is also pet friendly, isn’t easy. Hosts very friendly and helpful – just ask if there is anything needed to your requirements and you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for the welcome – the wine, biscuits, milk and doggy treats etc and Martin for going out and buying us a fan within hours of our request. Super clean and quality of rooms Absolutely family friendly. You were most welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed the beaches of Oddicombe, Babbacombe and Meadfoot and the cafes more too – and driving inland into countryside you can find some gems of pubs!

We come to Devon often and look for a place that takes dogs. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Friendly attitude goes a long way and the treats for humans and dogs a nice touch on arrival – doggies loved the biscuits! Top tip to future guest is to use the restaurants in Martin’ book – well worth it!

It was our first taste of life in Devon which was amazing! The warm weather (in December) and the views along the coast, then returning to a lovely cottage which was always warm and comfy beds! Martin was a font of knowledge on all aspects of the area. Thank you so much for advice re places to visit, places to eat, shops etc. ‘Alfie’ was made to feel very welcome to. Excllent location with short drive to lots of things to do and short walk to local shops.

Dog friendly, close to walks, pubs, shops, buses & looked cosy in the pictures – exactly how we found it. Just a fantastic few days where everything went smoothly and loved seeing Theo, our dog, experience the beach and sea for the first time. Thank you so much for sharing Honeysuckle. Beautiful cottage and lovely hosts!! Very warm welcome with Martin explaining everything on arrival with complimentary wine, chocolate cake and milk – PERFECT!! Our two little girls fell in love with the cottage and asked if we could live here. Knowing that are girls were happy and comfortable made us 100% happy. Great location and very peaceful. With ample information and leaflets to look at we found all we wanted with the Round Robin, Brixham, Paignton Zoo, Babbacombe Theatre and Cary Arms. We came away for a few days break to simply relax – and did just that. What was so pleasant was to find a place where the reality matched the description on the website – doesn’t always happen! Having a glass of wine on the sofa at the end of the day was truly memorable. For those looking for some food Paul’s Plaice just down the road is definitely worth a visit and the Ode pizza near Shaldon had delicious food, lovely atmosphere and good views as well. Thank you for a pleasant place to stay.

We wanted a dog friendly place that had lots of walks but was not too far away from local attractions. We loved it here! Great hosts – Martin so welcoming to us and our pooch! ‘Belle’ loved the treats. Seeing the little welcoming gifts, especially the milk for a cuppa was a great pick me up after a long journey. We didn’t realise how much was nearby – fab! Oddicombe beach is a must. Babbacombe Model Village and Bygone’s Victorian Street – our daughter loved it and they are dog friendly. Our dog had never seen the sea and to watch her and my daughter looking for crabs, shells and exploring was wonderful. Overall an amazing place to stay – we had the best time. Thanks.

We’ve had a lovely stay in Honeysuckle coming away for a half term break and Daniel’s birthday. We were given a warm welcome with the chocolate cake for Daniel’s birthday a thoughtful touch! Martin’s very detailed folders were extremely useful as we explored the area. The trip on the steam train was amazing and we would recommend future guests try out the model village which is a must see, and Hanbury’s fish & chips. Honeysuckle is a very cosy cottage, having everything we needed and such comfortable beds (we slept very well). Excellent value. Thank you.

We wanted somewhere comfortable, baby friendly, good local amenities and nice. That is what we got! The main bedroom was very comfortable and downstairs a great space for our 10 month old to crawl around. Warm and cozy for November in the barn, everything you need for a holiday is on your doorstep with lots of great tips in the visitor suggestions book. We particularly enjoyed Angel tea room (Babbacombe), Paignton Zoo and steam railway to Dartmouth as well as enjoying the lovely views of S Devon and glorious coastline.

We have had a great half term break in a very cosy cottage, found in a great location – great for being able to walk to shops with lots to do nearby. The information folders where very good, especially for walks from the cottage - with fabulous weather for October we had great walks on the beach. Cockington is a lovely place to visit; good dog walk and great cream teas, whilst the Thatched Tavern gave good pub food and the steam train so memorable with dog’s first trip. Amazing. First visit to Torquay. Honeysuckle location is ideal for exploring and also it is in itself a ‘Gem’ of a find! We wanted to chill – we certainly were able to do that. With the information folders we ended up visiting Babbacombe, took the ferry and steam train to Dartmouth, wandered along Shaldon and then ferry to Teignmouth, headed for Torquay harbour and then not missing Brixham. Just a brilliant, central location to explore from. Thank you allowing us to rent Honeysuckle Cottage. Martin and kim, you were so friendly and the welcome gift so thoughtful. Places we would say to visit would be Kents Cavern, Living Coasts, Torquay seafront and the arcades and our tip to future guests would definitely be to book restaurants as they become full quickly. Thank you for the lovely stay and the warm welcome with the little gifts. Thank you xx

We came to Pilgrims Rest because we wanted to see and explore Torquay and the surrounding area. Bantham beach is well worth a visit despite the 2 hour drive! We would recommend horse riding, bantham beach, Cockington village and the harbour amusements as it was incredibly fun. We had a 3 week stay in Torquay and we felt that this was the best out of all! We felt very comfortable when it was raining throughout the week and thank you for all the great information as it helped us planned a great week.

Absolutely lovely cottage! Honeysuckle was ideal for all our family needs including location. We strongly recommend Teignmouth beach for dog owners, our dog loved it especially swimming in the sea. We also enjoyed looking around Torquay town centre. Great for shopping and a lovely cup of coffee to relax. Staying in Honeysuckle was so much better than staying in a hotel; the kids preferred it immensely more as it felt more like home. Bringing our dog was an extra bonus on top of everything else; it was great not to have to leave him in kennels. Thank you so much for the most enjoyable stay. The cottage was amazing and very well thought out. We truly wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back next year to stay in Threshing Barn.

Sarah, Mike, Aidan & "Poppy"- "We originally found Pilgrims Rest on a recommended holiday website, we were looking for a luxury cottage where we could just chill out and that’s exactly what we found! The fact you accepted dogs was also brilliant as we’d booked before getting Poppy! Where to start? Well Carey Arms and the Thatched Tavern are great places to eat out as well as Paul’s Plaice, Wok’s Cook In and Mirch Masala for takeaways! We found the food in Torquay exceptional. For days out we found Living Coasts was well worth a visit, both Dinosaur and Torquay Museum have explorer trails, if you find all the clues you get a prize! We also had a great horse riding experience at Babeny horse riding stables on the moors, excellent value for money. Cockington is beautiful, lots of walks and stunning scenery. Finally, the cottage was fabulous; everything we could have wanted was in the cottage including a dish washer! The bed was so comfy and big, never wanted to get out. Thank you for the chocolate cake, wine, biscuits etc, very much needed after our journey here, lovely touch. Its cozy, warm, ideally located, clean, I mean what more could you ask for? I recommend to future guests that they take the time to read all the fantastic local information that is available, plan your time as there is so much to do. There are so many different places to visit in such a short space of time, we loved; Cockington village, Hanburys fish & chips, Babbacombe beach, Cliff railway café and AMF bowling! The holiday will be a memory I keep forever, I won’t forget the breath taking views, laughing together and most of all the kind hospitality you gave to us. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in such a special place xx"

The information folders you gave us to read were invaluable, without them our holiday wouldn’t have been half as good. We took you up on your recommendation and visited the Thatched Tavern, it was gorgeous! The food was great and the staff was excellent. The Cary Arms was also beautiful as well as woks cook in and Paul’s Place. We found there was so much to do in so little time, in the time we did have we had; taken the car ferry from Dartmouth to Totnes which was lovely and visited all the different beaches. Diane, Laurence, Heather, Jack & dogs(1 week) - "Very comfy & homely. In a perfect place to explore the coast & Dartmoor. Dogs & kids loved it – super comfy beds. Recommend ‘Granite Cycle Track’, ‘Dartmeet’ walk, ‘Cockington Village’, ‘Coastal Path. Had lunch at Thatched Tavern but mainly cooked in except for odd cream tea! Claire’s pampering treatments were excellent – good value & would thoroughly recommend. xx"

The barn was very well finished with attention to detail and comfort. The local shops are close by. We found it a good base to explore the area and found some nice places to eat. Emily & Jonny - "We’ve had a really wonderful stay here in Honeysuckle & have had mostly gorgeous sunny weather. The cottage has been a perfect base to explore Torquay & surrounding area. We’ve had some cosy evenings in & probably way over indulged on the nearby takeaways! Everything about the cottage is spot on; lovely decor, everything has been thought of & v. tasty cake & goodies to get us started. Thank you Martin for the great welcome too – nice to get a personal touch. We’ve used the buses to get around which has been easy – nearest bus stop about 50 metres away & quick routes to torquay, Paignton & (bit further away) Brixham. We would recommend the Break Water cafe in Brixham Harbour, then a walk up to Berry Head; the coastal walk to Maidencombe (from the cottage) with a stop at the Thatched Tavern & on to pretty & ‘quaint’ village of Stokeinteignhead; steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth – gift shops in Dartmouth really good!; + we had a wonderful meal at the Elephant in Torquay (pricey but worth it). Thank you for being such great hosts! xx "

Alan & Jane - "Thank you for a brilliant holiday: it’s amazing to find a place with no faults. Being a proprietor of a professional cleaning company, that’s saying something. It has ticked all the boxes for a perfect break, the first we’ve had in 3 years, so we are incredibly grateful and have been able to totally switch off and relax. All the recommendations for food & drink exceeded our expectations. Favourite eateries No1 Coombe Cellars; No2 The Orestone and we’re trying Thatched Tavern tonight. We had a lovely day in Totnes on Friday, fantastic market. Location: perfect!!! We will definitely recommend you, and if we are ever down this way again it will be our 1st choice. Thanks again. xxx"

Have 2 girls, 3 yrs & 17 months and the barn has catered very well for them cot/highchair/stair gates. We have all felt very relaxed here. Thanks for looking after us, you’re great hosts! It’s not often I come to a place and are greeted by Genuine People who care. Honeysuckle has a way of helping you forget there is a world outside. A big thank you for the cakes; it’s a nice touch which is appreciated. xx"

Miles Family - "What was pleasant about this place was that everything it claimed to offer, it delivered and to an excellent standard, which in this day & age is a rarity. Martin’s pre-visit communications are an added assurance and on arrival the customer service continues. The cakes and biscuits were a lovely touch after a 6 ½ journey! The areas beaches, coves and walks are very good and extremely beautiful. Martin excels with his visitor pack, maps & helpful advice and tips. Overall our stay here in Pilgrim Rest’s Honeysuckle has been most enjoyable and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone travelling to South Devon. OUTSTANDING! The Miles xx "

Slater Family - "We loved our week here. The barn was lovely, really clean & cosy so we quite liked having a few nights in! The beds are the nicest we’ve ever slept in away from home! We had a nice day on train & ferry from Paignton to Kingswear to Dartmouth & ended a few hours on the beach at Paignton which is lovely for kids. Pennywell Farm was lovely for kids too. Watcombe beach is nice & secluded. Maidencombe not quite as secluded but cafe nice & Thatched Tavern is a lovely place for meal & very friendly. The Cary Arms is a great pub/restaurant with fantastic views out to sea in Babbacombe downs. Thank you Martin & Kim, you & your family have been so kind & helpful. The cakes & drinks were much appreciated! xxx "

Anna, Ken & John-John (young family) - "We’ve had a lovely time here with our toddler. Honeysuckle was a lovely home from home – a lovely base for exploring the Torquay area & rediscovering childhood memories such as Dawlish Warren. Very child friendly – the gated courtyard & gardens has been a fantastic bonus. Favourite beaches were Dawlish Warren & Watcombe, and nice long promenades (for tiring out toddlers) at Paignton & Goodrington. We all really enjoyed sitting in the glorious evening sunshine at Torquay Marina and enjoy a latte (at Below Becks). Thanks for a warm welcome & all the best for the future."

Fantastic barn, great location; recommend for families ‘Pennywell Farm’, ‘Miniature Pony centre’; ‘Becky Falls’; ‘South Devon Railway’; ‘Otter & Butterfly Farm’; ‘Paignton Zoo’; Watcombe/Maidencombe/Oddicombe/Blackpool Sands beaches. Dave, Chris & baby Samuel Kenny (9mths) - "We’ve had an excellent week. As our first holiday with a small child we have found it really easy with everything we needed for him provided. We have been able to relax and enjoy ourselves in a very clean, comfortable environment. Torquay has everything to offer in a relatively small area, meaning no long car journeys for Sam. We have been spoilt for choice where to go each day, but have enjoyed everything we have done and feel there is still plenty to do on our next visit booked for June 2010 already (Paignton Zoo; Brixham Harbour; Watcombe beach; ‘Angels’)!! Thank you for all the local knowledge & help you provided us with – most helpful & thoughtful."
