Lovely Cottage 

We passed a wonderful time in Pilgrims Rest Cottages with a very warm welcome. The cottage is well situated and equipped and we even had the chance to enjoy a bit of sun in the garden. Matin is a very caring owner and ensures a wonderful stay for his guests.

Cottage was beautiful , in a good location. About 10 minute drive to Torquay. 4 minute walk to local co op and Tescos. Was in a quiet location and cottage was clean and tidy. Cottage downstairs was open planned so perfect for a family holidays.

We had a really wonderful stay here. The living space was great for socialising and the outdoor space was great for our dog. The bedrooms are very comfortable. Goodrington sands is a lovely wide beach and great for walking the dogs. Wonderful find, lots of laughter and games galore.

Great property for a family get together. We had a warm welcome from the owner Martin, and we were all delighted with the size and comfort of the property. There was ample space in all the bedrooms, and enough bathrooms/shower rooms for us all. There is a safe garden for the children to play in. The spiral staircase could be challenging, but we all got used to it. I thoroughly recommend this property.

The Kemp's 

 

The Old Threshing Barn is great accommodation for up to 8 people. IT is very comfortable and there is lots of room to spread out in the lounge, dining room and kitchen areas and 3 bathrooms, so less of a wait to get out in the morning. The kitchen is very well equiped for catering for a larger gathering with lots of large saucepans, serving dishes, etc. There is also WiFi and a large Smart TV with the possibility of logging in to your netflix, iPlayer, etc. There are some great local shops very close (a Tesco Express, a CoOp, a bakers and a chemist). A bigger ASDA and a big Sainsburys are a short car ride away. There is a bus that goes into Torquay or a short car ride. There are many things to do and see in the surrounding area. Just be aware that the spiral staircase takes a little getting used to and that there is a short walk from the car park. Martin and Kim and family were very welcoming and very helpful. In particular, they kindly did some research for us and found lots of restuarants and cafes providing gluten free food.

Fabulous Break! First trip away post-Covid with 3 generations of the family - we were greeted at the Threshing Barn by Martin and quickly settled in! The Barn is clean and spacious and very well equipped. We enjoyed lazy evenings in the Old Orchard with a G&T and ventured out during the day. All in all, super easy from end to end and a really lovely week had by all. Thank you Martin & Kim! Xxx

We came for a relaxing break and got exactly that. Threshing Barn is a beautiful property. Rooms clean and tidy with comfortable beds and all the amenities we could want. Located in a very nice place – easy to travel around. We loved the Babbacombe Model Village and our trip to Dartmoor. Thank you once again, we really had a lovely time and are looking forward to coming back again in the future!

We have been a few times before and found it just as lovely, with a few nice new touches – oak dining table, settees and rocking lamb! As always very relaxing. We love visiting Paignton Zoo and this time also went to their sister place, Living Coasts with local Chinese takeaway and bakery always a must. Thank you as always. This place always creates nice memories.

Booked through owner’s direct – made very easy because of Martin; a lovely host. The barn was spotless on arrival. All the amenities we wanted. Cosy, warm, spacious and family friendly. We enjoyed eating at Rock Fish in Brixham as well as our round robin trip to Dartmouth – a perfect place with lots to see and do Happily come again and recommend to friends. A big thank you to Martin – met on our arrival. So helpful and friendly – always on hand if we needed advice or help. Couldn’t ask for any more.

We choose Threshing Barn to come away as a family to celebrate our mum’s 60th. It was a lovely place for our family to enjoy. Very clean, tidy and accommodating for our baby with highchair and bouncers. Visits to ‘Rockfish’ and ‘On the rocks’ went down well, as well as ‘we do paddle boarding’, Paignton Zoo and our walk from Fishcombe Cove to Brixham. Thank you, Martin and Kim, for everything – we really enjoyed our stay

Threshing Barn provided a lovely family holiday with our 3 young adults before they go back to uni and for our beautiful old dog. A tasteful cottage where a lot of thought has gone into providing things guest may need. We’ve all had an amazing time with wonderful days out and homely nights in. Thank you for the lovely bottle of red wine and the biscuits AND Ralph says thanks for his treats. Lovely cottages and you are kind, helpful hosts. Shame we couldn’t stay longer!

We have had a great time here as two families visiting from Germany. Very friendly and welcoming with lovely, quality rooms and in great location to visit so much – Babbacombe and Paignton Beaches, Handbury’s Fish and Chips, Dartmouth and the dolphins and even the local shops. The Strongs 

 

Just love this place! Family times in the large living area with table tennis, uno and Netflix – paradise and the girls loved their rooms. Dog friendly in a great location for a very relaxing stay. We had a fantastic time going Kayaking at Ansteys Cove having read the very helpful guides made by Martin left in the barn. Splashdown was also great fun as was the Gurka House and Angels Tea Room! Thank you for patiently accommodating our many girls – they have had a great time.

Threshing Barn was a perfect place to visit for 8 with a dog in tow! The cottage is beautiful on the inside and out and my young daughters loved the spiral staircase. Perfectly clean on arrival. Spacious, very family friendly and in a great location – the scenery, Torquay beaches, the walks and the fact the main attractions are close by. Thank you Martin and Kim..

Threshing Barn was a wonderful cottage – both family and pet friendly – for our annual family Easter holiday. Beautiful and cosy – the kids loved their bunk room. Very good amenities and a fantastic price in a lovely setting. Multiple places we enjoyed going out to eat from Beth’s Bistro, The Buccaneer Inn, Ghurka’s and of course the excellent local Chinese and Fish & Chips takeaways. Booked somewhere last minute that was dog and child friendly. We found a comfortable, well equipped barn with really friendly owners. The Drum Inn at Cockington was excellent and dog friendly, as well as the great local Chinese takeaway! Playing games, having a laugh and having family time were highlights for us. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and thanks for the wine and chocolate cake – much appreciated!

Absolutely perfect holiday. Very warm welcome from Martin who explained everything on arrival with great information folders as well as complimentary wine, choc cake and milk! Everything you needed and great comfy beds. Our two little girls fell in love with the cottage and asked if we could live here. The cottage was close to all amenities, in a great location for exploring and very peaceful. We particularly enjoyed Preston Sands, the Round Robin ‘steam, bat and bus’ trip, Babbacombe Model Village and Downs, Goodrington Beach and nearby Pirate Golf. The scenery was amazing and some lovely food when out and about – cream teas yummy.

Martin and Kim have made a lovely place for a lovely holiday! It has been the best time ever and we don’t want to leave. Brilliant location both to local shops and attractions. All their help and information enabled us to really enjoy the area from the coves such as Anstey and Watcombe to the beaches like Broadsands. We went Kayaking, took a ride on a steam train, ate cream teas and fish & chips and laughed and chatted. All the children related bits for the babies in the barn were really great and thoughtful and much appreciated. We loved the open plan downstairs and all the little extras such as tea, coffee, washing up liquid, washing clothes etc a massive plus.

A special thank you for Martin and Kim for making us so welcome and for contributing so much to helping make our holiday so perfect. Threshing Barn turned out to be a wonderful surprise; so friendly and comfortable. Found to be ideal for ages 2 ¾ to 74! According to Archie your spiral stairs are lighthouse stairs and Blake thinks he’s climbing a beanstalk each time! The location proved to be well centred for everything we needed for a good holiday. Future guests should try out Babbacombe Model Village, Kents Carvern, Paignton Zoo, Babbacombe Cliff Railway, the steam train and ferry and NT at Coleton Fishacre – all thoroughly enjoyed by whole family.

Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for being ‘genuinely ‘dog friendly’ and ‘child friendly’. So much provided for dogs, children and babies. It was really thoughtful and useful. Future guests should look out for Hanbury’s Fish & Chips, Gemelli’s Pizza, The Thatched Tavern eateries as well as Maidencombe and Watcombe beaches. Overall a very relaxed holiday. Thanks.

Coming for an extended family holiday with young grandchildren we were warmly welcomed by Martin with flowers, cake, cookies and wine – all a lovely gesture. The Barn has great comfort, space and very family friendly found in an excellent location. We won’t forget the pretty spring plants outside the door, Martin’s helpfulness, the long walks, great food and atmosphere in restaurants and the daffodils in bloom everywhere. We would recommend future guests go to Babbacombe downs, Cockington Village, Watcombe Beach and great walks at Meadfoot. Sincere thanks to Martin for great stay.

We came for a family break during half term on the recommendation of friends whom stayed last year and are returning this year. We have had a lovely stay and will definitely return. Everything we needed was provided. The rooms were spacious, well equipped, with bathrooms good size too and we loved the open plan downstairs. The local shops are a 5-minute walk away and have everything you could need. Martin’s information files are very useful and we particularly enjoyed beautiful walks, Paignton zoo, bygones, kents cavern, living coasts and ‘angels’ tearooms! Thank you for your welcome and welcome gifts and for a really enjoyable stay.

Fantastic cottage. Lovely, comfortable beds. VERY welcoming for families. The location was excellent with all we needed where we didn’t travel more than 20 minutes a day. We loved Paignton Zoo, Cary Arms, Model Village, Living Coast and Torquay Harbour. Useful local shops also close. Great value. We had a lovely time and wanted to stay longer but you had another booking. Thank you for your hospitality.

We’ve had a wonderful stay in Threshing Barn, this making another return visit. Quiet, well placed cottage with lovely furniture and fittings and glasses to fill with wine and bubbly. Martin provides great help both direct as well as with his information folders on places to eat in or takeaway, walk, visit etc. full marks all round.

We have had a very relaxing stay. Extremely warm and cosy and quiet with local, handy amenities close by. Going home with batteries fully recharged! Thank you for trusting us to leave the dogs ‘home alone’ – so rare in holiday rentals. Whilst we would love to make some recommendations to future guests, we didn’t venture too far as want to ‘chill out’ and the sofas way too comfy!

We came to celebrate a 60th and 30th. Threshing Barn was excellent as was the welcome. Perfect place, big enough for all of us together with everything provided for every age group from 7 months to 60!! Lots to do, lots to see, lovely location and wonderful barn. We would recommend future guests go to the Babbacombe Model Village, On The Rocks in Torquay for a bit to eat or have a drive and visit Paignton or Brixham for a couple of days out. Thank you for a wonderful stay and your excellent information and guidance.

We came to celebrate New Year in comfort and luxury and weren’t disappointed. Everything was perfect. Arriving to a lovely warm barn with the lovely added touches of the Christmas Tree, wine and cookies was memorable. We really enjoyed a day out in Brixham and Simply Fish was amazing; highly recommended to future guest. Thank you for being so welcoming and the barn is so perfect. Threshing Barn was perfect for us; a 70th birthday and Christmas celebration for 6 with 2 extras from The Linny! Plenty of space and very comfortable. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly with their information packs and Christmas decorations excellent. The Thatched Tavern, its nearby beach and the walks along the coast were highly recommendable and The Orange Tree fabulous. We would highly recommend the delightful cottage.

We found a lovely period property, child friendly, with lots of space and very friendly owners. Threshing Barn was a great base and space for a family time giving us a very relaxing holiday. We loved visiting The beach and playpark at Preston Sands, Decoy Park and, Paignton Zoo, with The Ness / Thatched Tavern and Boathouse great for drinks and food.

Martin and Kim made us feel very welcome and at home in their lovely barn. The welcome hamper was a nice touch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are sad to leave but have made good memories. We wanted a relaxing break with the baby arriving with comfort and Threshing Barn got A*. Lovely and clean on arrival with an excellently equipped kitchen, the garden area is very secure for the children to play and you are in a superb location, close and central to explore. Babbacombe at night, Simply Fish in Brixham, and great beaches to name but a few. Threshing Barn was well worth the money. Thank you!

We came to Pilgrims Rest 6 years ago and once again the welcome was fantastic and the barn is just as we first saw it-just lovely! We had such great weather for October which was just fantastic and enjoyed some great food over the area. For future guests we suggest going to totnes-excellent market! It has been such a lovely place to stay. Comfortable, spacious rooms, very well equipped kitchen and a home away from home. Such a beautiful town full of friendly people with lots to do at the harbour. We recommend taking a visit to Brixham, a beautiful little town where we travelled to by boat which was very cheap and bought some fantastic fish and chips! If you are looking for a home from home then this is the place to relax and unwind and take in your surroundings. Thank you for your warm welcome, bottle on wine and cake, it was a lovely touch. Summer (2 ½ years old) loved it and called it “heaven” and wants to come back! Thank you again.

We came to spend our annual family vacation and we chose England. We spent some hours at the seaside and at the moors and had a brilliant time walking the south west coast path from Shaldon to Maidencombe, enjoying the many views of the sea. For future guests we recommend visiting the beach in Strete and also visiting Dartmoor where you can go for a long walk across the stark and windy hills. We arrived at 5am due to a flight delay and this was no problem. Martin was always ready to give advice and the garden was well taken care of which makes a great impression. We will be sure to recommend this place to family and friend in Germany. Thank you!

When looking for a holiday, we wanted a good base with plenty of space for the family to be together, this is exactly what we got! Threshing Barn is a lovely, comfortable place to relax. Excellent specification for a holiday property! We have enjoyed some wonderful days out including; a super walk along Brixham harbour with some great fish and chips! The Barn Owl was delicious as well as the Drum Inn in Cockington. We’ll never forget watching some mad men surfing whilst snow was falling!!! Many thanks for a warm welcome and a fantastic stay. We will certainly be back in the future.

We love Torquay and have been coming here for years; the barn is beautiful and so well equipped, suited the whole family. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from; we loved Curry Ocean in Torquay lovely food as well as scenery. Hanburys fish and chips, well they were something else! Trago Mills was a great day out for all; adults got a few bargains whilst children used all the facilities on offer. The Riviera centre was great; children loved the huge pool, wave machine and water slide. Was lovely to watch the children laugh and play, a lovely memory. Thank you for all the effort you put into our stay, the cakes and wines on arrival were a real treat. The trampoline was also great for tiring the children out... and adults! Anna, Greg, Barnaby and Digby - "We’ve had 2 very full and really fun weeks staying here as a family. The Barn has given us a superb base from which we have exhausted the area, with Martin and Kim’s local knowledge proving invaluable. As we have 2 small boys we’ve enjoyed all the beaches. Barnaby is mad on trains so the Devon Railway centre was a huge success as was building sand castles at Goodrington while the steam train pulled in and out. The local High street is really useful and we’ve used most of the shops. We can highly recommend the Bakery which has provided us with a number of lovely picnic. The Ness at Shaldon is a great pub for kids, as is the Thatched Tavern. We read & used the owner’s produced eating in and out guide quite a bit...too many to choose from! All in all we’ve had a fantastic 2 weeks with blazing hot sun almost every day. Really has been different everyday without having to go too far in the car. No just hoping the Yorkshire rain doesn’t wash our tand away!"

The Coley Party (3 families) - "A big thank you to Martin & Kim for providing us with a super location for us all to get together, chill out & enjoy each other’s company. The Barn was cosy yet spacious and in a wonderful location for visiting lots of interesting places. The south Devon Stream Railway was a real hit, as was Paignton Zoo & Maidencombe beach. The 3 top recommendations for food were certainly impressive – Coombe Cellars – Thatched Tavern – Angel Tea Rooms was simply gorgeous – hint – phone up & reserve a table if going for lunch. We will definitely recommend to family & friends – a real shame we have to go home!"

Williams Family - "Thank you Martin & Kim for a lovely warm welcome, and a lovely stay in your barn! The wine, beers, and cake was perfect after our drive down here and was appreciated by all of us! The Barn is just beautiful, very well appointed and the beds and constant hot water luxurious! We have enjoyed all the walks that we did; coastal from barn and the ones slightly further afield. The Barn is perfectly positioned for access to torquay and local attractions. We ate out mostly (though had takeaway from local Chinese Woks cook in – nice) – can recommend Thatched Tavern, Bombay Express, The Inn at the Green and The Church House at Stokeinteignhead passed on walk 14 of the little book – the soup was to die for!! Literally beautiful."

Dec 09 Heron Party (3 nights) - "Thank you very much for the lovely cakes, drinks & welcome. The Barn was a lovely, homely place to stay and our time went by too fast. A real home from home. We visited the Thatched Tavern twice. Once for a light lunch and the next for dinner. The food was delicious and they were quite happy for us to take Bertie (our dog) into the bar area to eat which was very homely and comfy! We also did the walk from the book you left us which was the Scabbacombe beach; s worth the drive & mild & a little strenuous! Happy New Year to you all! "

Very welcoming sight after a long journey; cake, wine, beer etc. We have had lovely days out at: hedgehog hospital which is well worth a visit, as well as Butterfly Farm & Otters Sanctuary, plus some interesting caves (Kents Cavern). Please recommend ‘Marina Restaurant’, brilliant on a last night. Will definitely be back again."

Aug 09 Martin, Michelle & their 6 children - "Finding a holiday destination that can accommodate six children in style with plenty to do & see is one difficult task; but the barn did – tremendous, very comfortable, spacious ad all ages catered for. The hosts – Martin & his family are wonderful people who really go out of their way to make sure their guests are looked after and feel welcome. The area – well we had loads of fun!! From National Trust castles, Lydford Gorge, country parks and CAVING!! What more could one ask for?? A truly wonderful barn, area and hosts and a truly wonderful holiday – Thank you from all of us! xx"

We really enjoyed Maidencombe with the ‘Thatched Tavern’ close at hand. Would recommend a trip on the ferry to Brixham; beautiful old harbour & a wonderful suntrap. The girls also enjoyed Babbacombe Model Village & Becky Falls is also a great day out. Had a wonderful meal at Prezzo just off harbour in Torquay. We took advantage of your suggestion with Thatched Tavern & then it chain of restaurants such as The Ness, The Old inn, Barn Owl – all good & family friendly. Down in town we went to Sea Spray. Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts & Kents Cavern all good with Cayman Golf 7 go Karts great fun. Watcombe Cove was our favourite beach. Thanks!"
